Golf Conditoning Program - Core Workout - Part 1

A powerful golf swing requires strength, stability, balance, and co-ordination, all of which require a strong core. The core is the area deep within the torso that surrounds the spine and is critical in maintaining posture. In the past, the core was often overlooked in most traditional workouts, however the trend of working on stability balls and using tubing/rubber bands has moved out of the physiotherapist's office and becoming commonplace in most gyms.

None of the exercises in this program will require a visit to the gym; however these core exercises require a stability ball. These can be purchased at fitness or medical equipment stores for an affordable price, ask a salesperson for advice with regards to the right size of ball for you. It is best to perform these exercises when the body is warm, therefore avoid performing these exercises first thing in the morning. Since correct body mechanics during the golf swing requires a large range of motion it is important to exercise muscles over the whole range of motion, without overstretching.
